Policy Perspectives in Special Education in India

Abstract

This paper covers the perspectives as well as current policies related to individuals with special needs. Education of individual with special needs has been progressing through different phases. History is witness to the long span of time from 19 to 21^st centuries, which has not been an easy path although rigorous efforts and positive thinking and humanistic perspective brought changes in educational treatment of special children to some extent. Even now society and educational system still need to be developed to understand human differences with acceptance, empathy and positive expectation.
